Lot for Sale - 7.25 Acres in the Village of Granville, Ohio

Date Published: July 28th, 2008
Categories: Real Estate

This article describes a lot currently for sale in the Village of Granville, Ohio.  It is 7.25 acres of wooded hillside located on Wexford Drive in the Highlands of Erinwood.  The asking price on this lot is $129,900.

Interested?  Here’s how to contact us:

  • Realtor (Kathy Smith, Keller Williams Realty):  740-334-7021 or ksmithbiz@gmail.com
  • Owner (Peter Morse):  740-405-2326 or pmorse@gmail.com

This is a 4-minute video walk-through of the property, with some commentary.  It’s a little grainy, but hopefully useful.

On the map, the lot’s midsection is right at the intersection of Trinity Court and Wexford Drive, on the west side of Wexford.  It has about 300 feet of road frontage on Wexford.   (Click here to see an aerial view & map of this property.)

This is really a unique piece of property– the right person/family is going to build a pretty spectacular house on it.  Because it is wooded, it is often hard to see & appreciate the view– especially in the summer time.  However, looking west you can see Swasey Chapel on the Denison University campus as well as downtown Granville and Raccoon Valley.   By removing a few select trees, this view would open up.

The lot itself is huge and offers all kinds of unique opportunities for gardens, tree houses, trails, fire pits, etc.  There are building sites at both the north and south ends, though we believe the south end offers the best location and best views.

We purchased the lot a few years ago with the intention of building our “dream home” on it.  As it turns out, we found an existing home instead.  As a result, we do have some ideas & research we can provide about different house plans & landscaping we considered.

Bringing Your Business Online

Date Published: July 11th, 2008
Categories: Small Business Advice, Local Business News

Many small businesses already have a web presence of some sort. Some have a basic website that simply serves as a contact point for prospective online customers. Others have gone the whole nine yards to create something pretty dazzling.

Then there are the business owners that have yet to take the plunge. For this group, the even the first steps of how to “get a website” can be unclear, and the perception of the cost can be daunting. This article aims to provide information and online resources to help a small business owner get started.

DOMAIN SELECTION & WEB HOSTING

One of the first steps to take when looking to start a website is to secure a domain name, and set up a hosting account. Many sites do both of these. One site I recommend is GoDaddy. Despite its sometimes-questionable advertising, their web hosting service is cheap & reliable, their website is easy to use & they have fantastic customer support. If you visit their homepage, just start with the domain name search box in the center of the page, and go from there.

Sites like GoDaddy do their best to allow even web novices to build a website. But sometimes even this assumes too much. Many business owners still are either too busy or too technically-challenged (or both) to use this route. In this case, your best bet is to go with web design consultant to guide you through the process.

BuyerZone.com is a great site if this is the path you want to explore. On BuyerZone, you submit your contact information, and then they connect you with up to 5 different vendors that will bid for your business. There is no obligation to buy, but it’s a great way to get a handle on pricing. The following link gets you started:

Website Design Quotes

If you already have a website, and just need a place to have it hosted, you can get quotes for that service as well from BuyerZone:

Website Hosting Quotes

It’s a really good idea to take the time to get even a simple website up & running. More & more people go online every day to find local products and services. Most of the time they have no intention of actually purchasing online; often all they want is a phone number, email address or driving directions. If your business doesn’t have a website, it makes it really hard for those customers to find you.

On July 11th, a new restaurant will open in Granville: The Short Story Brasserie. It is located at 923 River Road behind The Wine Cache.

Below is an excerpt from The Short Story Brasserie website about the menu:

“Our menu brings together the diversity of food styles experienced by Hemingway in his travels. Through this menu, our owner James Housteau is able to share the passion he developed for food while visiting some of Hemingway’s favorite places like Les Deux Magots.

Our Executive Chef, Chad Lavely, has experience creating culinary treasures at some of the finest restaurants in Columbus, Ohio like the Refectory Restaurant & Bistro, Carolyn’s in German Village, Aubergine Private Dinner Club and Handke’s Table.

The menu will change frequently so that we can share our love of variety and exploration of food with you.”

I downloaded a copy of the menu for those that want to preview the selection: Menu - The Short Story Brasserie

Reservations are strongly suggested. Call 740-587-0281 between 12-8 Monday to Wednesday and between 12-10 Thursday to Saturday to make your reservation.

11 Commandments for Living in Granville, Ohio

Date Published: July 9th, 2008
Categories: General Information

These were posted recently in on the Granville Press website, and we here at Granville Ohio Online found them… well… amusing. You may or may not agree, but they are thought-provoking. I imagine that the length of time in which you have lived in Granville might influence your reaction.

Comments here, or on the original article, are welcome. Feel free to add a few new commandments…

THE BIG 11

1. Granville is special and it is something worth fighting for.
2. I live/moved here because it is unique; therefore I do not support anything that may make it common and/or plain. Doing so only destroys what I have come to love.
3. Granville is a destination; therefore, I do not encourage any business, venture, or zoning code that could rob me of that.
4. Every landowner/developer that has bought land in Granville in the past 100 years knows exactly what they signed up for; a higher standard.
5. If I want Granville to remain a destination I will create a zoning code that will attract independent entrepreneurs that make Granville unique.
6. I will speak out and live up to the fact that, yes, we are different; we have a higher standard; all growth is not acceptable.
7. I will live in and protect one of the last bastions of rural, educated America.
8. If I want to eat at Hoggy’s I have no problem going to New Albany.
9. I do not support any land developer that is not part of the community and does not share our values.
10. I will support every local merchant through good times and bad. This is how we sustain a community.
11. If I want to increase the value of my real property, I do not encourage growth.
