From the KussmaulGallery.com website...
Kussmaul Gallery had its beginnng in 1987 when James A. (Jay) Young made the decision to embark on a business venture of his own. At the time the only space available was the second floor area where his grandfather and uncles had operated the Granville Times newspaper and printing business for almost fifty years prior to 1976. The name "Kussmaul" was chosen in honor of William Henry Kussmaul who had been an owner of the Granville Times newspaper and printing business from soon after its founding in 1880 until his death in 1933. Mr. Kussmaul was known as "Koos" by his wide circle of friends, and included in his many business ventures at this location a bookstore and a picture framing and wallpaper cutting service early in the 20th century. "Koos" installed what is thought to have been the first telephone in town, a private line running from his desk in the corner beside a south side upstairs window to his home, the present day location of Sugar Gourmet Candy & Pastry Shop just south of the Granville police station on South Prospect Street. On more than one occasion he is known to have called his wife to inquire about the upcoming lunch menu.
Kussmaul Gallery, which also has become known as the "Koos," suffered through all the growing pains inherent to a new retail business, and, when space on the first floor of the same building became available in 1996, extensive remodeling preceeded the move downstairs. In 1997 fresh flowers were added to an already expanded selection of jewelry and unique gift items. Now the business is operated by Jay and his wife, Jenifer.
Frequent visits to gift shows in various parts of the country by Jay and Jen enable the "Koos" to maintain a continuously changing array of jewelry and gift items. Deliveries of fresh flowers from several suppliers are received almost every day.
The picture framing service at Kussmaul Gallery is operated by Jay himself. This means that your total framing job from the time you select the frame moulding and matting to the final cleaning of the glass on the finished product is produced by Jay. This assures you that everything is done just as you specify when the order is placed. Any unusual request is considered to be a challenge, and many times he has completed jobs that other framers said could not be done.
